It's Dark Designs day(s)....

Just a quickie as I'm attempting to take the night off... nothing exciting before you ask, just watching Mr Madelynne playing FFXII.

Right, if you head on over to LustBites I've been given the end of the month entertainment slot, but because I was feeling especially generous I've posted a teaser today, before the main act tomorrow. Be sure to leave me a comment either here or there in order to win a signed copy of Dark Designs together with a 400g bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk. Yummy!

Rethink...

Productivity has reached an all time low over the last few days. Partly this has been because of the dire lurgy I've been (and still am) suffering from, and partly it's been because I've been stuck on a particular scene, which has resisted all my best fix it tactics. I decided today that something more drastic was necessary.

So, I've had a mammoth soak and a major rethink of that particular plot point and decided I'm better off without it. It was only causing trouble anyway, and taking it out means I can spend more time developing other aspects of the book and certain other characters I've taken a shine to (eg, the adorable Henry Tristan).

Weirdly, extracting this particular plot thread has also kick started several libidos (a jolly good thing considering this is supposed to be erotica) and made room to incorporate a few more frivolous period details.

I think I'm happy again.

Minimal progress

Sorry about the lack of posts, I'm struggling with a horrendous sore throat, which is doing nothing for my writing productivity.

Vaughan is still being a moody bastard, but, you know, that is his role. Bella's starting to come out of herself again, but she's mightly confused by what's going on (join the club), and as for the other characters... well, now... they are a jumbled assortment of misfits and hopefuls.

Stroppy Characters.

Bastard! Bastard! Bastard! So, all last week while I've been working on demon-novella second draft I've had Vaughan whispering in my ear 'Listen to me. Write about me, you know you want to.' And I did want to, but yer know, I wanted to get demon-novella finished with so I could focus my attention properly. Well, I finished demon-novella mkII last night, so I was all ready for Vaughan today. Did he sit down and spill forth onto the page. Nope, he swanned off in a huff, hence I achieved not a jot... sigh...

He'd better get his arse back in the hot seat come tomorrow is all I can say, else I'll start work on demon-novella volume 2 instead of writing about him. See how he likes that... hmpf!

And before anyone feels the need to point out that Vaughan is in fact just a figment of my imagination, I do know that, but try living with him.

I need chocolate and a drink! At least tomorrow is Mother's Day...beam...

Audio Erotica

More good news! (I seem to be on a roll, which just about makes up for the distinct lack of writing done this week. I have my excuses, and for a change, they're good ones.) Right, What was I saying?

Heard from my editor yesterday, and A Gentleman's Wager has been chosen as one of the first set of audio books they plan to release. I'm quite excited about it, though it'll be weird hearing someone else read it out. During the editing process I read each chapter aloud to get a feel for weird phrasing, dialogue, rhythm etc. I'm not sure when they're scheduled for release yet, but I'll let you all know.

Phew!

I finished the first draft of Broken Angel (demon-novella) last night. I can't believe it's only been six weeks since I started on it. If I can manage that pace, theoretically, I should be able to write a novel in four months! Hmm, three a year... It's never gonna happen.

Anyway, normally, once I've completed the first draft of a novel I like to set the manuscript aside for a while before I start the polishing process. That way I get a bit of distance from the characters and story. However, in this case, I'm going to plough straight back in. Having spent such a short time on it, I can barely remember what I've written, so I don't think distance will be a problem. Also, I've only just got used to these characters. I don't want to say goodbye yet. Although, even once the novella is complete, I know it won't be goodbye forever, because the story is far from over. I think it has potential as a series of three novellas.

There is one other reason I'm eager to finish it up. Yep, you've got it, I'm itching to get back to writing Phantasmagoria. Vaughan is calling me... :-)
