Shifting tides

It appears to be snowing. Oh god, I need to go out shopping in that!

Still bobbing about between various projects, mainly BM and DM. Have to thank MB for reminding me about this guy, Atsushi Sakurai.

I just love his bone structure, and his mouth. Oh
yeah, that mouth just screams sensuality. Anyway, so now I have a visual for Skaa. Skaa being the mean arse silent type who was lurking in the corner. I have his number now... ah, ha ha...yes I do.

Not that he's actually turned up in the text yet. I'm way off reaching that point as I've spent the last week rejigging things. I realised that I needed to go back and refine things and put some stuff in a slightly different order.

Blaze's killer line, still cracks me up.

As for Desperate Measures... Well, the plot has certainly changed. Bye bye cross dressing and jail cells, bring on the ink and bondage. You can interpret that in whatever fashion you like. All I'm saying is that I'm growing increasingly fond of Stark. He's so pretty, and ruined and messed up. And Richard, what are you doing? Are you infact a very very bad man indeed. Dammit, you idiot, you're supposed to be the hero.

Hm, of course, I still have the minor problem of excess spouses.

Right ho, off to brave the now considerably heavier snow...

Twenty five titbits

Five things that annoy the hell out of me.

1. Reviewers who clearly haven't read the book.
2. Editors that don't get back to you.
3. My own inability to be satisfied with anything less than perfection.
4. My own inability to produce said perfection.
5. People who phone me when I'm writing and expect me to be civil.

Five things I lurve...

1. Strong, opinionated characters. They're so much easier to write.
2. Witty dialogue.
3. Lots of visuals. Description is good. White boxes are not.
4. Unusual names, (but not ones that require a pronunciation guide.)
5. Vaughan, (but don't tell him that ;-))

My five favourite books...

1. Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien
2. The Poldark series of books by Winston Graham
3. The Sunne in Splendour by Sharon K Penman
4. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte
5. Lord Wraxhall's Fancy by Anna Lieff Saxby

Five books I still haven't written...

1. AGW 3
2. Darleston's story
3. Desperate Measures
4. Broken Angel part 2 (although I'm working on it)
5. This damn contemporary that's annoying the hell out of me.

Five things yet to come... (WARNING SPOILER ALERT LOL!)

1. A small matter concerning the unnatural tightness of ones trousers.
2. Hand sex
3. The theft of a very fine pair of boots.
4. A highly unexpected and very violent death.
5. Off camera buttsecks

Me bad... LOL... sorry.

Weirdness...

No progress on the WIPs since Wednesday. I had Pure Folly edits to do on Friday, which took up most of the morning. I wanted to make sure I had them exactly right before sending them back to TEB. They're now heading towards the final line editor.

No writing done over the weekend either. Too much else going on at home for me to concentrate. I might try and make some progress in a minute or two.

However, getting to the weirdness. I was standing in the kitchen earlier, talking to the other half when an empty wine glass standing on the bench slid itself about two inches across the surface! Nothing nearby to give it a push or anything. It just up and walked!

Good job I'm not easily spooked.

More nonsense

I hope nobody ever finds the piece of paper I've just scribbled my latest bath time notes upon. For starters, it contains no less than four different viewpoints, for two different books. The paragraphs are in no semblance of order. They spiral and flow backwards and run rings around each other. Blaze and Takeshi compete for space. Silk broods and Raven seems entirely too Japanese... Oh, and even I can't make out all of my impressively soggy scrawl.

For the most part, the Bloody Novel is taking precedence at the moment. I'm hopping all over with it, but at least the ideas are flowing, and the characters are certainly growing. I like how they're starting to show different facets of their personalities to different people. Talon's a right royal bastard, but even he has a gentle side.
Raven's becoming clearer. Vervain likewise. I love what he's going to become. It's so tactile and visual. Haven't actually written those scenes yet. They're going to be a challenge... hehe, I think he's channelling aspects of Riddick! Oh, and Mr Tough Guy has a name, and maybe even a brother, while two of the other characters have blended into one... Long story, not going into the details...

Right, better get back to it.

Lust at First Bite

Yon beauty arrived in the post today, I would be celebrating but they made a mess of my first paragraph and am feeling curmudgeonly as a result.

Otherwise looks to be a good collection though.

Bobbing back and forth

I still don't know what's going on with these novels, I seem to be hopping back and forth between them without ever really getting settled into either one. They both have characters and settings I love, but... Oh, I don't know! I do know that I'm going to have to break off from both before long to work on my submission for the next BL anthology. Misbehaviour this time around. I have something started, but it's not ideal, and I'm half toying with the idea of writing something about Takeshi. But hey, don't hold me to that.

Anyway, you know that news I mentioned? Guess I can reveal it now. I've sold Pure Folly, my m/m historical ghost story to Total-E-Bound. Currently it's scheduled for released in May 09. I'll let you know more details when I have them.

There's only so much space in my head...

I might have some news soon, but not yet!

Meanwhile, the saga of the Bloody Novel/Desperate Measures continues. There I was convinced that DM was taking priority, when bang, I realised what the problem with the Bloody Novel is...

*drum roll*

I'm being too systematic about it.

Instead of working from start to finish, I need to get the big old upheaval down on paper and out of my head. It's the same situation that I had with Phantasmagoria. You know, the bit where everything goes pear-shaped when Lucerne arrives and Vaughan reacts. I wrote that fairly early on. Of course, I went back to it later to refine it, and I'll end up doing the same with these scenes, but until I actually write these scenes that are flashing through my head, I'm never going to make any headway with the beginning of the story.

The other thing is that I'm starting to become rather enamoured of R and V. Think R is winning by a touch at the moment. He's one of those, yer know, bad ass rogues with a heart. LOL!
V on the other hand is... OMG, of course he is... plot-point falls into place. That's why he does that and that. *Hugs self* Now all I need is for Mr Macho Tough Guy Who Keeps Lurking in the Corner to tell me his name and exactly how he fits into this and I'll be sorted :-)

Ah, the joys of my headspace... Sometimes I can't believe I get paid for this stuff.

The plot bunny shifts tonight...

Yup, once again the plot bunny hath arrived and caused a huge sideways shift.

You know my original plans for Desperate Measures... well, they suck! Seriously!

Hence I've bolted them in a box and tossed them into a bottomless pit. The beginning is staying the same, because I like that. It's just chapter five onwards that needs a major plot reassessment.

The thing is with this book, I've always loved Stark, and I realised, he needs more sex. Yup, he does. I have got to get this guy naked.

Not that he's a nice man, you understand, but I'm beginning to think he's not altogether nasty, just misunderstood and defamed. As for my main protagonist dude, well... Let's just say he completely and utterly fails in the law abiding, do right, alpha male stakes. He's more of a sly manipulative, miscreant.

Yes, that's right. In Madelynne world villain and hero, what's the difference?

Gawd, I love it when the plot gets complex.

As you may have guessed by this point, my afternoon project has taken over. I haven't really got into the swing of the Bloody Novel yet, whereas this is jumping up and down excitedly. I still have issues with the Bloody Novel. Nothing serious, I just need to hit the 25K mark. That's normally about the point where I become hopelessly besotted with one or other of the characters and just want to run with them.

Rediscovery

So yesterday, having reached my target of 1.5K on the Bloody Novel by midday, I thought I'd take a break from it and look at something else. I'm only just getting into the swing of the Bloody Novel, hence I don't want to get ahead of myself by forging ahead too quickly.

Anyway, so I ended up opening Desperate Measures and taking a look at that. OMG, I'd totally forgotten what a complete firecracker the heroine is, particularly when you get her together with the main male protagonist (I refuse to call him a hero) and the villain of the piece. I'd also forgotten just how much chemistry there is between the two men, as in seriously unresolved sexual tension.

Well, having surprised myself with this, I've decide I really ought to finish it, but I think the story arc may change a bit from what I first intended. Hm, I think this is going to be my afternoon project. So, Bloody Novel in the mornings, and then if I make my word target for the day, I can potter about making something out of Desperate Measures.

PS. Naturally, I love the villain most...

PPS. Why is magic so blinking hard to put down on paper?

For QB... she who must know all.

Following this comment "You're such a tease. Don't think I didn't notice that you really let no details of the Bloody Novel's story slip through." I figured I needed to make amends for my cruel and wicked ways, or something like that... LOL.

So,

1. The Bloody novel is not really called that.
2. It's not AGW3, which has a different name. Shall we call it Arastabananasaurus... and yes, that's an old and very complex joke, requiring the hunting down of several old friends of mine for an explanation, which they will prove unsatisfying at giving due to abysmal pronunciation attempts.
3. In the Bloody novel. I am going to let my evil side shine and give the characters a very hard time.
4. I have just introduced two new characters, and they're already trading juices with the lead!
5. Fortuna is one of nine children: Sarah, Fortuna, Alicia, Mercy, Patience, Gabriel, Mae, Kitty and Sophia. All but one of whom appears in Fortuna's book.
6. Vaughan's father is Sebastian Peredur Forvasham, not that it's important.
7. Lucerne's paternal grandmother is called Elizabeth, which is even less important.
8. With the exception of Fortuna, all my heroines have four letter names, and that includes the ones in Desperate Measures (which is still only half written) and the one in Darleston's book (which is barely begun.)
9. In Dark Designs, Silk is actually Silk's surname not his forename.
10. My favourite short story that I've written is the one set to appear in Lust at First Bite.
