Prize Draw

Random House are having a Valentine's Prize Draw click here for details. They are giving away a free book from their Black Lace, Nexus and Ann Summers lines every day between 1st and 14th February. First up for the draw is In Too Deep by my good mate, Portia da Costa, which is all about some sexy shenanigans in a public library, and well worth checking out.

Bah, Humbug!

Crappy day, feeling really grizzly. Object to being treated like a free babysitting service, my laptop did some major wibbly weirdness earlier and my keep-fit instructor is leaving for pastures new, just when I was starting to make some head way. Boo! No writing done either. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Hm, and I'm almost tempted to twitter.

I blame Stephen Fry.

Sent

Well, my Affair story has just been zapped off into cyberspace. I'm still not happy with the title, but it'll do. Rather amazingly, this story ended up over budget at a 6,650 words. Crazy, when I was convinced there wasn't enough story to reach even 4,500 words at the 2K mark. Fingers crossed now that the trips down memory lane don't make it too disjointed and hard to follow.

Back to Kit, Ross and Evie in the increasingly dreadful contemporary. Gawd, I can hardly remember who they are.

There's a call out from Scarlet wanting serial writers, but, but, but... I don't like writing shorts. Although, at the 12K end it's almost a novella. Someone slap me with the sanity brush.

The Affair

Second story is now complete, bar a few tweaks and a spell check. The problem is I can't sub it until it has a title, and I suck big time at titles.

Current options, all of which are hopeless:

We were lovers once
Ray of Hope
Gilded C*nt (that is not a serious suggestion BTW)

Stupid story. I like it much better when they come complete with a title from the outset.

I've been subbing!

One story sent, the other is still in the works. I've been seriously doubting if I'd get it done in time, but things seem to be on my side today, as I've managed 2.1K on it so far. A few more paragraphs and I should be finished within a hair's breadth of the desired 6K length. Then it just needs some tidying up and a few willing victims to inflict it upon. I'll admit, that while I really like the story, I've serious doubts about how well it will fit the editors view for the anthology. It's not bubbly. It deals with an odd subject matter, but I can but try, and having put myself through hell to get it done, it's being sent regardless of my reservations.

Oh, today's pic - more Andrei, who seems to have slipped into the central male role in my latest story, and is hence probably responsible for today's drastic word count.

Scaring off the cold

I have the sniffles and a sore throat, and I walked about 6 miles today with a steadily rising temperature, and my short story is an enormous pile of cowpats. Hence, I need pretties to cheer me up.

Someone explain to me why when I have a cold I a) get an overwhelming urge to do housework and b) get totally horny? Seriously, I don't get it. Surely a dose of Benylin, a duvet and a hot water bottle would make more sense.

If I let Kit out of the box tonight, I think he might do something exceedingly naughty. What do you reckon, shall I, shall I, shall I?

Nuff of that... On with the pretties.

More Andrei

Dig that outfit!

So much for my plan to blog in a regular and timely fashion... Haven't had anything to say, which in my book is a good reason to keep shtum.

The dreaded contemporary is taking over. I'm fairly into the swing of it now, and scenes are slotting together fairly logically. It's not quite how I originally envisaged it. Far too much all male nookie going on. It was so supposed to be off screen, but my muse says otherwise. To be fair I can't deny her/him/it or myself the thrill of all that hot man loving. Not that the heroine is getting left out. Actually, I'm saying there's lots of sex, really it's all innuendo and teasing. Poor buggers are being led a merry dance as per usual.

Story for the Affair call has stalled at the first hurdle. Must press on with it if I'm to have it done in time. Need inspiration from somewhere. Think I need pictures.

Oh, and guess who interrupted my leisurely bath time soak last night?

No, not Vaughan as a matter of fact. It was Lucerne. Seems he's got the idea in his head that AGW was Bella's book and Phantasmagoria was Vaughan's, so AGW3 is obviously his! Lord only knows how that's supposed to happen, or when I'm supposed to write it. I think he's lonely, poor dear. LOL

Everyone keep their fingers crossed for good news for me...

Blaming it on the weather

Muddling along with a set of short stories for the upcoming Black Lace anthologies. I managed to finish the first one last night, and now it's onto the Affair. I'm not sure what's coming out is really very appropriate. It seems very melancholy and literary at the moment, and I suspect they're after something more uplifting and lightweight. I can' t bring myself to cast the idea aside though, because deep down I love it so much, even though it's causing me no end of writing pain.

Speaking of pain, typing is knackering my shoulder. It keeps making alarming crunching noises! I thought I'd been sleeping funny on it, or managed to knock it over Xmas, but no, I've since realised that typing is the culprit. Suppose it's due to sitting in a bloody freezing cold house all day typing on my laptop. Thing is, even though it's cold at the moment, I'm loving this weather. The snow outside is all powdery and clean and makes everything look so bright and pretty. I don't even mind walking in it. It's certainly a big improvement on the torrential rain that we normally get.

Wish me luck with the rest of my torrid affair. I want to get it over with so I can get back to the dreaded contemporary, which is no longer quite so dreaded and is shaping up to be a claustrophobic shagfest, or something like that :)

NB: Today's pretties, I blame MB and BevQB for flaunting him. How's a writer supposed to resist?
