Sunday Check-in

I've made a teeny bit of progress today as I attempt to get back into the swing of things, but more importantly, I've settled on what I'm attempting to write. Hence, you might notice the change to sidebar.

70 days of Sweat projects will now be:

1) Historical AGW spin-off (70K). Sadly still untitled.
2) Contemporary novella (25K). Also untitled.
3) Two AGW-Phantasmagoria teasers (10K). Strangely enough, untitled.

I'm really off on titles at the moment. Can you tell?

Anyway, as you can see, I've decided not to write about Blaze etc at the moment. Instead, I've slotted it into my calendar for early 2008. I think I'll need a break from Historicals at that point and it should nicely fill the void.

Sadly still no answers to yesterdays vexing questions.

Writing.... What's that?

Despite the distractions on Monday, I did manage to make my word count goal, which is just as well because I haven't done a thing since. I'll admit that we've been away doing family visits, which is never good for my productivity, but I don't want to make excuses. Basically, I've been crap!

The thing is, all this stalling hasn't actually helped any. Sometimes it's good to take a break and let things stew for a bit, but my plot(s) aren't any clearer. Actually, they're murkier than before. Still, I'm going to have to start plugging away at it again soon and see what comes ;-)

Questions of the moment:
1) Why do I keep seeing a conversation between Vaughan and D? Vaughan isn't supposed to be in this book.
2) Why is D so insistent that he has a wife? It's bloody inconvenient of him.
3) Why am I bothered? He's only a secondary character!

Things were going pretty well last week and I made an impressive for me almost 8K total by Friday. That's when it all went down hill. First proofs for Broken Angel landed on the doormat with a return by date of today, which naturally boosted them to priority number one. Secondly, it was the weekend, and the start of half-term so the family are all at home. Third - is kind of related to the first, because as I've sat reading through Broken Angel, I really want to go back to that world and finish the story. Broken Angel only really sets the ball rolling, Blaze, Asha etc need their story completing, so in a fit of madness I'm contemplating writing two novel concurrently, one apocalyptic urban fantasy paranormal(ish) thingy and one Georgian 'free love' historical. Go on, tell me I'm crazy! That brings us to Fourthly: curse you JR Ward. I spent yesterday reading all about Zsadist and today I'm exercising will power and not reading about Butch. Hah! That'd be why I'm already on page 60.

I think Sven better get over here and punish me!

Inflicting my taste in music

I'm posting over at Lust Bites today on the music I listen to while I write and use to alter my mood and get into my characters heads. Please take a look and make me feel loved. Also, if I get lots of comments, Sven and Gackt might be more lenient over me failing to write a single word on my WIP yesterday!

Sweat 70 - Day 4

Oh, dear, despite my efforts over the last 3 days, G isn't happy with me. 2.15pm and nary a word written. Bad me. And I'm unlikely to find time later as I have a Lust Bites post to write for tomorrow and Broken Angel proofs to do for Monday.

How come things always come at once?

70days of sweat - day one.

I'm sweating... back later to let you know how it's going.

Miracles do happen! I've managed a nice 1.3K so far today, which I'm very happy with as I'm aiming for 1K per day. It's even reasonable stuff rather than utter drivel. Can't wait to get further into the project though, I hate beginnings, they're so difficult.

The lovely Portia da Costa is posting today at Lustbites about cross-dressing men, go check it out. Meanwhile, here are some piccies of one intriguing man. It took me a month to work out that he is actually a man!

Sweat 70

Motivation required... so, I've signed myself up for Seventy Days of Sweat, it seems like a more realistic goal than Nanowrimo, which would involve ignoring my children, partner and everything else for a month. 1K per day seems far more reasonable, and I should be able to do that while the kiddies are at school.

Anyway, my goal is to write the first draft of my currently untitled AGW series spin-off, which means having a workable plot by next Monday is essential. Currently it's floundering at the end of the second act and I just can't see how to tie all the knots together, but if it comes to it, I'll just have to pants the whole thing.

Jeans for Genes Day

Today is Jeans for Genes Day in the UK, I'm not sure about the rest of the world. The idea is that you wear your Jeans to school or work in exchange for a small donation to support charities that fund research into genetic disorders. I don't normally twist peoples arms over this sort of thing, but it's an area close to my own heart (without going into personal details).

Anyway, if you can support them please do...

Maybe you could consider ordering one of these Fifi and the Flowertots Zip Pulls for your kiddies.

Finally, words on the page...

I'm feeling pleased with myself today. After spending much of September doing not a lot really, I've got October off to a good start having written 3.5K so far. I hope to add to that this evening, maybe getting it up to 4K.

What are all these words about you may ask... Well, they're about Vaughan, Bella and Lucerne. Not another novel (not yet), but some extra teaser type bits. The plan is to make one story available on my website and the other as an Amazon Short. Both stories take place in the time between the end of A Gentleman's Wager and the start of Phantasmagoria, and they provide a bit of sneak peek at what the characters' lives are like.

I've also been collecting my thoughts regarding a couple of other new projects. I'm still not sure which will come first, the dodgy Georgian AGW spin-off, or the contemporary menage-y madness, they're still battling it out in my brain for dominance. But Kit, I've decided definitely needs a scrummy tattoo, though perhaps not one as delicately positioned as this one.
